Biography
"You could call me folksy, with a bit of rock and pop. I write about things that annoy me and make me angry, to things that just occur in my life..."
Kellie Marie's music is as raw as it is smooth. She has no reservations with speaking from the heart, yet has the ability to keep the serious sentiment easy to swallow with catchy melodies and memorable vocal hooks. She draws her influences from all styles of music such as Sarah Blasko, Something For Kate, George and Sarah McLeod.
Kellie Marie has been playing guitar for over 9 years. It was after hearing her older brother playing the guitar that Kellie Marie decided she wanted to do the same. The first song she learnt was Pure Massacre by silverchair and "that drove everyone insane, so my brother taught me more songs, and I guess the rest is history."
She started off writing songs in her bedroom "the first song I wrote was called No Time it was about someone not making an attempt to make something work." Soon after this, Kellie Marie took up the lead guitar role in an all girls rock band called X-iety 4. While in high school, X-iety 4 went on to play original songs in the Youth Rock festival in 2000 and 2001. It was here that Kellie Marie caught the performing bug and found her home on stage.
After X-iety 4 ended, Kellie Marie felt it was time to swap the electric guitar for the acoustic guitar. "Choosing to go solo was a hard, but an important decision. I found it became easier for me because I could then just do my own thing..."
This was one of the most important decisions in Kellie Maries solo career. She went on to win the singer/songwriter category in the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge in 2004 with her song 'Attention', and then backed it up the following year to take top spot with her song 'On Your Side.'
Kellie Marie has already supported big name acts such as Abby Dobson, Sarah McLeod, That 1 Guy and Holidays on Ice. She has also played at venues such as The Brass Monkey, Hopetoun Hotel and the Cat and Fiddle. Kellie Marie has already recorded a demo at Sound Dog studios in Artarmon and will be following this up with her first EP which will be released in the coming months.
With all this history already under her belt, the future holds bright things for this burning young star!
